Foley & Lardner LLP partners Carrie Hoffman and Shabbi Khan are quoted in the CNBC article, “On-the-job generative AI training is already critical for workers. Here’s how to get started,” discussing how employers can responsibly integrate generative artificial intelligence into the workplace.

Hoffman noted that generative AI policies do not exist in a vacuum. “Everything you do from an AI perspective needs to be done in conjunction with making sure we’re still being compliant,” she said.

Khan, commenting on the need for balance by employers between acceptance of AI use and monitoring activities connected to AI, said, “If you’re too strict, employees may end up using it on their personal devices.”

Khan added that as part of training employees on the technology, it is crucial to remind users to keep their guard up and confirm the accuracy of outputs to avoid hallucinations, instances where outputs may be unverified by an AI model’s data set.

“As these models are getting better and better, the hallucinations are harder to detect,” he said. “People will start assuming that the outputs are accurate because you don’t find as many mistakes.”
