Foley & Lardner LLP Miami office managing partner Leslie Smith spoke with Law360 for its article, “Fla. Law Firm Leaders Envision Continued Growth In 2024,” about firms expanding their reach in the state’s competitive legal market.
Smith commented that, after a year that went well amid economic concerns, she “hoped to further build out Foley’s health care practice and government investigations group in Miami as well as the office’s technology-related depth,” in part because of a local government that has been supportive of the tech industry.
She said that Foley is working with clients on how best to utilize artificial intelligence to meet their needs and, “Some people… are very anxious to be first to market with [AI] products and services. Others are more ‘Let’s hold back, but I need to be educated. So we are seeing a lot of activity there as well, [and] our transactional and technology practices really have had to team up and to forge ahead to meet those needs.”
Smith also noted that Foley’s “heavy presence in Florida may have helped in 2023 as well, with the firm maintaining five offices across the state, which is seeing an influx of businesses and people in recent years. You get a lot of bandwidth when you have five offices, so we’re able to cover all the bases for our client base. And I think that is a plus.”
