Foley & Lardner LLP Chairman and CEO Daljit Doogal is quoted in the Law360 article, “Anatomy Of Attrition: A Look At Law’s Biggest Mergers,” offering insight on how Foley’s 2018 combination with Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP continues to be positive for the firm and clients.
“The success of a combination starts with the people, and, in our case, it was and continues to be a wonderful cultural fit,” said Doogal.
According to data from Leopard Solutions looking at large combinations between 2017-2021 and focusing on retention of lawyers from the smaller firm, Foley “stood out with a 70% retention rate.”
“We spent a lot of time in the months leading up to the combination focusing on the integration of the firms and making sure that people on both sides knew the combined platform. This helped our people feel more comfortable and confident in the direction of the firm going forward,” Doogal explained. “The synergies between our two firms were clear from the beginning, but it was the collaborative spirit and compatibility of our people that truly made Foley and Gardere better together. We couldn’t be happier with how it all played out.”
The combination enhanced Foley’s nationwide platform, adding offices across Texas in Austin, Dallas, and Houston, as well as in Denver and Mexico City, and expanded significant key areas of service for clients across corporate, litigation, and intellectual property.
