Foley Partners with Utah Business to Host Quantum and Cloud Computing Roundtable
Foley & Lardner LLP recently partnered with Utah Business to host a roundtable discussion featuring leaders in quantum and cloud computing from across the state.
Moderated by Dr. Taylor Sparks, director of ReUSE REU and professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Utah, the conversation touched on the latest developments in cloud computing, the rise of quantum computing, and the impact advancements in computing technology are having across industries.
Joined by leading academics and industry experts from Amazon Web Services, Booz Allen Hamilton, and NVIDIA, among others, commentary from Foley partner Whit Johnson and senior counsel Kamyar Maserrat was included in the Utah Business article summarizing the discussion, “Quantum and cloud computing experts discuss the latest developments, practical use cases and limitations.”
Maserrat said that for now, quantum computing is neither accessible to or needed by the general public. “It’s a really heavy load of computation that needs a quantum computer,” he explained.
“If it’s on the cloud and accessible and there to understand, I think with a little bit of lowering of the decoherence, solving the energy issue, and resolving some of the material challenges of the hardware, the ChatGPT moment for quantum computing could be at any moment,” Johnson added.
