Alejandro Gomez-Strozzi Discusses Mexico’s Efforts to Spur Investment in Southern Zone
Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Alejandro Gomez-Strozzi is quoted in the Reforma article, “Critican insistente promoción del Gobierno al sur del País,” discussing the push by the federal government of Mexico to encourage direct investment towards the southern region of the country.
Critics argue driving investment towards areas without adequate standards in infrastructure, logistical connectivity, and security to support growth, as seen across much of the southern zone, may reduce investor confidence. Gomez-Strozzi explained that while each country can direct its efforts to attract investment as they deem appropriate, in the end, it is the investor who decides where to direct their capital.
“All investments are welcome,” Gomez-Strozzi said. “If they find favorable conditions where these are most sought, that’s great, but you can’t twist someone’s arm to go to a specific location.”
