Mark Neuberger Explains E-Verify System as New Florida Immigration Law Arrives
Foley & Lardner LLP of counsel Mark Neuberger is quoted in the Construction Dive article, “The Dotted Line: What contractors need to know about E-Verify requirements,” offering insight on the federal employment eligibility verification system which is now necessary for Florida companies with more than 25 employees to use as part of Florida’s new immigration law.
“The E-Verify system is free, and normally you get a response almost instantaneously,” Neuberger explained. “But it puts an added burden back on the employer if they don’t get the green light to do additional diligence on the employee.”
Part of this additional burden is employers will now need to make and retain copies of applicants’ documentation, instead of just looking at it. “That makes it easier for a governmental agency to audit for fraud,” Neuberger said.
