Mark Neuberger Assesses New Labor Policy Developments and Impact for Employers
Foley & Lardner LLP of counsel Mark Neuberger is quoted in the Law360 article, “Policy Developments Discrimination Attys Should Watch For,” discussing newly enacted legislation across the United States that employment attorneys are monitoring.
Neuberger, noting a caste bias ban passed in Seattle earlier this year, said that a similar bill in California, if enacted, would be unlike any other law in the country and could pose some compliance challenges for employers.
Neuberger explained that if the legislation succeeds, the top items on employers’ compliance to-do list should include to “get smart, study a little bit and get some background on the caste system and South Asian culture,” and familiarize themselves with the legislation’s definition of caste.
“I tell my clients, ‘Always keep your eye on California … because they’re always out at the forefront of things, and what happens there may in fact spread to your state or locality,” Neuberger added.
