Aaron Maguregui Chairs ATA Data Work Group in Developing New Health Data Privacy Principles
Foley & Lardner LLP senior counsel Aaron Maguregui chaired the American Telemedicine Association’s (ATA) Data Work Group in contributing to the organization’s recently published Health Data Privacy Principles, designed to ensure telehealth practices meet standards for patient safety, data privacy, and information security, all while advancing patient access and building awareness of telehealth practices.
Key components of the Health Data Privacy Principles include consistency, definition of consumer health data, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), consumer rights, consumer consent, sale of data and opt-out, and enforcement.
Maguregui is the co-chair of the firm’s Data Intelligence area of focus within Foley’s Health Care & Life Sciences sector, as well as a member of the firm’s Privacy, Security, and Information Management Practice Group and national Telemedicine and Digital Health Industry Team. He advises innovative health care and technology companies on complex compliance, cybersecurity, data governance, data privacy, and risk management matters.
