Birmingham Discusses Relaxation of Workplace Drug Testing Policies
Partner John Birmingham was quoted in a Detroit Free Press article, “Tight labor market spurs shift in drug testing plans; Michigan companies relax policies regarding marijuana,” about the movement to relax drug testing policies in the face of a tight labor market and the growing legalization of marijuana.
Birmingham said preliminary results of national surveys show about half of all employers are considering changing their drug screening policies. He also said some of his own clients have dropped their marijuana testing requirements in recent years.
“It’s such a crushing difficulty to get enough people working right now that it has motivated my clients to eliminate (marijuana) as part of the testing requirement,” he said.
