Burtley Appointed to the State of Michigan’s Black Leadership Advisory Council
Detroit Associate Christopher Burtley was appointed today to Michigan’s Black Leadership Advisory Council by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. He was appointed to represent Black leadership in law.
The Council brings together a diverse group of Black Michiganders to serve in an advisory capacity to the governor and develop, review, and recommend policies and actions designed to prevent and eradicate discrimination and racial inequity in Michigan. The group includes experienced leaders in economics, public policy, health, technology, the environment and law. “I know that those on the Council will continue to be a force for change in Michigan, and I am excited to work closely with them to create a more equitable and just state for all,” Gov. Whitmer said in an announcement.
Burtley, a Flint, Michigan native, is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice. His experience includes product liability, shareholder disputes, immigration, and complex commercial matters. He also has significant experience with automotive matters and is actively involved in drafting and litigating contracts commonly used in manufacturing industries. He counsels clients on commercial matters affecting businesses and risk management, including licensing, purchasing/selling, procurement, and supply chain disputes. He previously served as national discovery counsel for a major multinational OEM.
Burtley’s term on the Council begins November 12, 2020 and ends December 31, 2021.
