Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Jeremy Freeman and Allison Charney have joined the firm’s Securities Enforcement & Litigation Practice as partners in the New York office, along with their team of attorneys, an analyst and administrative staff. The team brings considerable government investigations experience and a particular focus on allegations of financial fraud matters in the investment banking space.
Freeman and Charney represent financial institutions in regulatory and criminal investigations by various government entities and self-regulatory organizations, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Justice (DOJ), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), Commodity Future Trading Commission (CFTC) and New York State Attorney General, among others. They also advise clients in the emergent fields of financial technology, cybersecurity and other areas where technology intersects with the financial services industry.
“Jeremy and Allison are among the best in advising financial institutions, companies and individuals involved in litigious situations or under scrutiny by the government,” said Beth Boland, chair of the firm’s Securities Enforcement & Litigation Practice. “Amidst the shifting terrain of laws and regulations, they are equally adept at conducting internal investigations and troubleshooting issues as they are at combating complex securities cases and enforcement actions.”
Freeman is a former senior counsel in the SEC’s Enforcement Division and former prosecutor in the Major Felony Unit of the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona. Freeman and Charney were previously partners at McGuireWoods LLP with their team, specializing in government regulatory investigations and enforcement. The six additional team members include special counsels Sarah Hanson and Teresa Wendel; senior counsel Steve Sandover; financial regulatory analyst Ryan Searson; administrative specialist Kellie-Lyn Uszakiewicz; and assistant Lindsey Zyzyck.
“This team brings experience handling the full spectrum of securities and financial services regulatory issues, which will serve our clients and colleagues well,” said Peter Wang, managing partner of Foley’s New York office.
