The Huffington Post Covers Gardere's MLK Jr. Oratory Competitions in Dallas and Houston
The Huffington Post covered Gardere’s Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competitions held in Dallas and Houston. Now celebrating its 24th year in Dallas and 20th anniversary in Houston, the competition is designed to highlight the cultural diversity of the community while recognizing and encouraging the writing and presentation skills of elementary school students.
“The students delivered timely and well-prepared speeches that not only proudly commemorated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but drew powerful comparisons to current events,” said Gardere Chair Holland N. O’Neil.
Winners included Lyriq Turner, a fifth-grade student from Charles Rice Learning Center in Dallas, and Richard Espinosa-Garza, a fifth-grader from Cornelius Elementary in Houston.
