KDAF CW33 featured the 24th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Semifinal Competition held on Dec. 8 at Dallas ISD’s Ada Williams Auditorium. The 15 fourth- and fifth-grade semifinalists were asked to present original speeches addressing the question, “What would Dr. King say in his campaign speech if he were running for President this year?”
“We are all human,” said Marco Mares, a fifth-grader from William Brown Miller Elementary School. “We should all be treated the same – with respect and dignity.”
Eight students were selected by judges to the final round of the competition to be held on Jan. 15 at the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas. For more information about the Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory competition, including videos of past winning speeches, click here.
