Quan Vu Featured as One of Texas Lawyer’s Top 20 Extraordinary Minorities
On Aug. 31, Texas Lawyer released its 2015 Extraordinary Minorities in Law list featuring 20 of the most influential minority lawyers in Texas, including Gardere Partner Hoang Quan Vu. Texas Lawyer readers were asked to nominate licensed minority attorneys in the state who have made a significant impact in firms, government, nonprofits, academia and/or the corporate world within the past five years.
The exclusive list, which is compiled only once every five years, identifies minority attorneys who stand up for the powerless, guide influential corporations and lend a helping hand to younger generations of attorneys. The publication considered approximately 200 nominations and ran its own research before narrowing the list down to 20 lawyers.
Mr. Vu and his family were among the 130,000 refugees who fled South Vietnam when communist forces took control of the area in 1975. After traveling from the Philippines to Singapore and then to Guam, Mr. Vu and his family settled in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Vu graduated from Harvard Law School in 1995 and went on to specialize in complicated energy deals in Houston.
"I was one of maybe 10 to 12 Asian partners in a big law firm in Houston and Dallas. There are a lot more now," Mr. Vu said. "I was proud of that. I've done more than $20 billion in transactions. My largest was $3 billion."
