Bloomberg BNA Patent, Trademark & Copyright Law Daily
Partner George Beck was quoted in an article published in Bloomberg BNA Patent, Trademark & Copyright Law Daily on March 31, 2014, titled “Court Seeks to Draw the Line Between Abstract Ideas, Patentable Business Methods.” The article discusses the uncertainty raised during the oral arguments of the U.S. Supreme Court case, Alice Corporation v. CLS Bank International. Questions by members of the Supreme Court did not offer a clear indication on how the court would resolve the interplay between business method patents and bar on patentability of abstract ideas. Beck was quoted saying, “Several of the justices appeared to question whether the court should articulate a bright-line rule for patent eligibility, and if so, how such a rule should be articulated.”
