Foley Adds Talented Intellectual Property Litigator Jami Gekas in Chicago
06 February 2014
Foley announced today that Jami Gekas has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice as a partner in its Chicago office.
Gekas brings considerable experience representing clients with an array of advertising, marketing, copyright and trademark issues. She has litigated complex intellectual property disputes and assists clients with matters ranging from clearing brand names and licensing to executing promotions and evolving media campaigns. Gekas also provides counsel to national advertisers on compliance issues arising from Federal Trade Commission, National Advertising Division and Children’s Advertising Review Unit regulations.
“Jami’s comprehensive knowledge of trademark, advertising and copyright issues will further the depth of our customized service,” said Pavan Agarwal, chair of Foley’s Intellectual Property Department. “She will serve as a trusted legal adviser to our clients facing complex brand enforcement issues and advertising challenges in Chicago and nationally.”
Gekas has represented clients as lead counsel in adversary proceedings in federal district and appellate courts, as well as before the Trademark Trial & Appeal Board. She is highly skilled in online rights enforcement, including recovery of infringing domain names, takedown notices and obtaining expedited relief against spoofing, phishing and problematic search engine optimization and keyword advertising practices.
“We are delighted to continue the expansion of our Chicago IP team with Jami’s addition,” said Myles Berman, managing partner of Foley’s Chicago office.
Previously in her career, Gekas worked as a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP, with emphasis on full-service counseling of startups, ecommerce providers and emerging brands. She has been recognized as a Rising Star in her field by Illinois Super Lawyers continuously since 2010.
