ABC Channel 13 News Features Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition in Houston

ABC Channel 13 News covered the 18th Annual Gardere Houston MLK Jr. Oratory Competition that took place in Houston at the historic downtown Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Jan. 17. Houston and Dallas ISD fourth- and fifth-grade students were invited to give their own interpretations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, answering the question "If Dr. King were speaking at a March on Washington today, what would he say?" Twelve talented finalists took the Houston stage, and the first place spot went to Amari Venzor, a fifth-grade student at Cornelius Elementary School.
