Douglas Caddell Recognized For Excellence in the Strategic Implementation of Technology Solutions by Legal Technology Awards.
Foley announced today that Douglas D. Caddell has been named Legal Technology Awards’ 2009 International IT Director of the Year. The Legal Technology Awards, in Association with Legal Technology Journal, is an organization based in the United Kingdom that recognizes individuals, law firms and suppliers for excellence in the strategic implementation of technology solutions for the benefit of legal practice.
As lead technologist for the firm, Caddell directs technology planning, implementation and support firm-wide. He plays a critical role in focusing Foley’s technological capabilities on providing clients and attorneys with world-class interactivity through state-of-the art technology solutions while ensuring the firm’s IT systems remain operational and within cost and capacity boundaries.
“I am honored to have received this major international award, and to be part of a firm that views technology as a requirement for providing effective service to clients,” said Caddell. “The ability to provide technology that makes a difference and adds value to client relationships is an important capability and a catalyst for strategic growth.”
Under Caddell’s leadership, Foley has implemented several technological tools that promote collaboration between the firm’s attorneys and clients while integrating seamlessly into day-to-day firm activities. One such tool is FOLEY:ClientSuite, a Web site that allows clients to track and manage matters and acts as a repository for case files and other information. This tool also features a budget management component that clients use to assess time and dollar budgets throughout an engagement, eliminating post-engagement billing surprises.
In addition, Caddell helped guide Foley in establishing a comprehensive and integrated business continuity and disaster recovery plan designed to protect internal systems and data while providing clients and attorneys with continued access to Foley systems during natural or manmade disasters. He also directed the firm’s server virtualization project, an effort that consolidated the number of computer servers, which resulted in a cost savings for the firm of nearly $700,000 in 2008 alone.
“Doug is the driving force behind our strategic use of technology to further enhance the firm’s value-added client service capabilities,” said Foley chairman and CEO Ralf Böer. “Under Doug’s leadership, we will continue to look for technology solutions to advance the productivity and teamwork between our attorneys and clients.”
As a result of Caddell’s strategic vision and direction, Foley has been named multiple times by CIO magazine as one of its CIO-100 Award Winners for technology innovation. Foley was also recognized in the past three consecutive years by Information Week magazine as one of the Information Week 500, and by The BTI Consulting Group as one of the top “tech savvy” law firms.
