Foley Adds Federal Prosecutor to Litigation Department in Los Angeles
Former Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Trial, Investigation, and Auditing Experience Adds Depth to Firm’s Litigation Practices
LOS ANGELES – Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Jaime Guerrero has joined its Los Angeles office as senior counsel and a member of the Litigation Department and the White Collar Defense and Corporate Compliance Practice.
Guerrero joins Foley after working as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles, where he served as lead counsel for a number of criminal jury trials in federal district court. Before attending law school, Guerrero worked as an auditor for one of the big four accounting firms.
“Jaime’s experience prosecuting cases at the federal level and working as an auditor will prove to be a great resource to our clients seeking counsel on white collar criminal litigation,” said Jon Wilson, chair of the firm’s Litigation Department. “His background leading criminal trials and directing investigations as a federal prosecutor, as well as his prior experience working as an auditor and handling antitrust and securities matters, will further enhance our ability to serve our clients on both local and national levels.”
Guerrero expands the firm’s White Collar Defense and Corporate Compliance Practice in Los Angeles where Pamela L. Johnston represents companies and individuals in criminal and civil investigations. Johnston joined Foley in 2005 after serving for years as a deputy chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Major Frauds Section where she supervised government investigations of securities and other types of fraud cases.
As an AUSA, Guerrero litigated numerous criminal cases and handled all aspects of multiple appeals before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He conducted investigations using a variety of tools, including grand jury subpoenas of financial institutions and review of suspected fraudulent financial transactions, and prepared search warrants, criminal complaints and indictments.
Previously, Guerrero was a litigation associate at another law firm, where he litigated complex civil actions in federal and state courts. He represented an energy company in several antitrust actions in federal and state courts related to the California energy crisis and successfully handled a securities fraud lawsuit on behalf of a corporation against its former chief executive officer.
