Marcos Carrasco-Menchaca is a recognized international trade attorney, advising clients on international trade compliance, customs, free trade agreements, customs litigation, and taxation on foreign trade. He is a partner in the firm’s Transactions and International Trade Practices, where he handles international business transactions, regulatory matters, and administrative litigation.
Marcos is a trusted advisor on foreign trade to major multinational and national companies in the retail, fashion, oil and gas, automotive, auto parts, and manufacturing industries. He has broad experience in the implementation of governmental exportation programs, such as the registration of companies in the Mexican Maquila Program (IMMEX), VAT Certification, Sectorial Promotion Programs (PROSEC) and Drawback, among others. In connection to the foregoing, he advises in the compliance involved with such programs and assists companies during audits performed by the Mexican authorities.
Marcos is also experienced in customs valuation and has assisted global brand name companies in determining whether the payments of royalties, insurance, and freight fees must be considered as incrementing the customs value of imported goods, providing advisory on that regard during audit procedures from the Mexican authorities.
With respect to compliance with Free Trade Agreements provision, Marcos has advised companies in connection with verifications of origin under Free Trade Agreements, during the audit procedure, and in their defense against the denial for the application of preferential duties treatment.
Because of his background dealing with international contracting, companies and fellow attorneys consistently seek his advice on a broad range of business-related implications and consequences.
