Edward J. Green is a partner and health care lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, concentrating his practice in health care transactions, health care planning, health care litigation and health care bankruptcies. Edward is also the co-chairman of Foley’s Health Care Transactions Focus Group. He is a member of the firm’s Health Care Industry Team, Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations, Finance & Financial Institutions, and Health Care Finance Practices.
Over the years, Edward has structured, negotiated, and closed numerous health care transactions and joint ventures involving long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, surgery centers, dialysis centers, multi-entity health care delivery systems, and physician groups, involving billions of dollars in consideration.
He has also handled a variety of health care matters in the state, federal, bankruptcy, and administrative courts, boards, and agencies for a variety of health care, financial services, and technology clients, including long term care and assisted living facilities, hospitals, physician practice management companies, billing companies, physician groups, internet companies, managed care entities, online and traditional pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, clinical laboratories and captive insurance companies. Edward has handled cases involving confidentiality and security issues, fraud and abuse, Medicaid and Medicare terminations, health care receiverships and bankruptcies, physician and hospital disputes, billing and coding audits and investigations, qui tam actions, FDA and DEA actions, and EMTALA investigations.
Edward has written several articles and delivered a number of speeches on HIPAA, security and privacy issues, health care fraud and abuse, joint ventures, medical group formation, physician contracting issues, health care bankruptcies and workouts, and medical group contracting issues.
Prior to joining Foley, Edward served as a law clerk to the Honorable Michael J. Melloy, Chief United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Iowa (now of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit) from 1992 to 1994 and was an associate at an international law firm headquartered in Chicago, IL.

Edward has been recognized in Chambers USA from 2014 – 2024 for his health care work. He was named a Leading Lawyer by The Ambulatory M&A Advisor on the Top Healthcare Transaction Lawyers of 2014 list. In 2008, he was recognized as one of the top 12 healthcare transactional attorneys in the country by Nightingale’s Healthcare News.*
