Riley Sexton advises clients on a variety of transactional matters, including renewable energy project development, debt and tax equity financing, and mergers and acquisitions. As a member of Foley’s energy sector, hydrogen subsector, and finance practice group, Riley focuses on assisting renewable energy clients in financing or developing utility-scale solar and green hydrogen projects. He also provides guidance on the acquisition and divestiture of renewable energy projects, financing structures, and investment portfolios in sustainability. Riley’s experience in non-energy mergers and acquisitions further enhances his comprehensive, client-focused legal service.

Before joining Foley, Riley externed with the United States Court of International Trade in New York. Prior to law school, he served as a long-term volunteer in Honduras with Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos and worked as a legislative intern for the United States Senate in the office of Senator Amy Klobuchar in Washington, D.C.

Representative Experience

  • Advised KeyBanc Capital Markets, KeyBank National Association, and City National Bank in the US $225m financing of Scale Microgrids energy transition debt facility.
  • Assisted a solar developer in financing a 200MW solar project with over US $275m in funds committed.
