Gills Named a Crain's Chicago Business Notable Woman in Law
Partner Jeanne Gills was named to Crain’s Chicago Business’ 2020 Notable Women in Law. The list recognizes women who have a track record of setting legal precedents, winning big cases for their clients and mentoring the next wave of women in law – all while finding ways to give back to their communities. Gills was one of 124 women lawyers recognized this year.
Gills, an intellectual property lawyer, acts as lead trial counsel in complex patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright and unfair competition litigation and appeals, including USPTO post-grant proceedings. She is a is a member of Foley’s management committee and also serves as the vice chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department.
Gills was one of 124 attorneys on this list, representing almost every major Chicago firm and type of practice, from fundamentals such as real estate and employment law to newer fields such as cybersecurity, gaming and cannabis. Almost all have been shaken by the pandemic but have skillfully adapted, and they are expanding the role of the women’s resource group to make sure that young associates get the skills and confidence they need to succeed. And they reach beyond their firms to support young girls, law school students, asylum seekers and disabled people. With the killing of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, they are pushing their firms to do more to promote racial justice and equality.
