Aaron Maguregui Chairs ATA Data Work Group in Developing New AI Principles
Foley & Lardner LLP senior counsel Aaron Maguregui chaired the American Telemedicine Association’s (ATA) Data Work Group in developing the organization’s new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Principles, designed to ensure trustworthy development, integration, and utilization of AI in order to maximize its potential benefits as a meaningful tool for patients and providers.
Key components of the ATA’s AI Principles include accountability and engagement, transparency and explainability, safeguards to mitigate against bias, clear regulatory guardrails, economic and workforce evolution, and privacy.
Maguregui also chaired the ATA’s Data Work Group in the development earlier this year of the organization’s Health Data Privacy Principles, designed to help telehealth practices meet standards for patient safety, data privacy, and information security, while advancing patient access and building telehealth awareness.
Maguregui is a health care lawyer and the co-chair of the firm’s Data Intelligence area of focus within Foley’s Health Care & Life Sciences sector. He advises innovative health care and technology companies on complex compliance, cybersecurity, data governance, data privacy, and risk management matters. Maguregui is also a member of the firm’s Privacy, Security, and Information Management Practice and national Telemedicine and Digital Health Industry Team.
As the only organization completely focused on advancing telehealth, ATA is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to safe, affordable, and appropriate care when and where they need it, enabling the system to do more good for more people.
