Timothy J. Sheehan is a retired partner and business lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. His diverse practice included mergers and acquisitions, trade regulation, and general commercial matters. Timothy represented domestic and international clients in the manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, and service industries in every type of joint venture and acquisition situation, from very small asset-based transactions to large and complex multinational share acquisitions. He was a senior member of the firm’s International Practice and a member of the Commercial Transactions & Business Counseling, Transactional & Securities and Distribution & Franchise Practices. Timothy was also a member of the Automotive and Food & Beverage Industry Teams.
Timothy has broad experience advising clients in connection with general commercial matters including supply agreements, licensing arrangements, terms and conditions of sale, and purchase and distribution of goods and services. He counseled clients concerning the establishment and termination of distribution relationships. He also advised clients on the supply and procurement of significant capital equipment.
Timothy was particularly active in the firm’s international practice. He represented U.S. companies in foreign acquisitions and joint ventures and foreign companies and investors in U.S. acquisitions and joint ventures. Foreign clients engaged Timothy to advise on wholly offshore acquisitions and joint ventures. He has extensive experience in the international distribution and sale of goods, local manufacturing agreements and technology licensing.
Trade compliance was an important part of Timothy’s practice. He provided advice regarding the design and implementation of internal trade compliance programs, and advice concerning particular trade proposals. He advised clients on product classification for customs purposes, customs audits, and general customs compliance. He has prosecuted customs protests and matters before the U.S. Court of International Trade. Timothy has substantial experience in the area of U.S. export control laws and regulations and advises clients on licensing issues, internal compliance, and government enforcement policies.
