Racial Justice & Equity

Racial Justice and Equality Hero Image.

Foley & Lardner launched its Racial Justice and Equity Practice Group in July 2020. This highly skilled practice group underscores the firm’s commitment to stand up against racial injustice and complements its continued membership in the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance.

The Racial Justice and Equity Practice Group assists in the identification of potential engagements, facilitates training, coordinates staffing and provides a vehicle for the exchange of information accumulated in the course of our representation of parties in matters involving unfair and unequal treatment based on race or ethnicity. While the firm has worked on numerous matters impacting racial justice and equality that predate the formation of this practice group, circumstances demand a sharp, coordinated focus of efforts.

“Since Foley was founded, we have embraced our responsibility to provide access to the justice system for those otherwise powerless to protect their rights. But in the wake of countless injustices suffered by minorities recently and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color, we knew we needed to do much more to address the systematic inequity and wealth inequality faced by Black and Latino Americans,” said Foley Partner and Racial Justice and Equity Practice Group Co-Chair Byron McLain. “I’m proud of the important – and so desperately needed – work the RJEPG is doing to combat prejudice and effect change, from election protection and police reform to community partnerships and small business legal services.”
