Partner Mark Mansour will be speaking at the bipartisan Congressional High Tech Caucus event discussing the upcoming FCC decision on the “White Spaces” television spectrum issue. The term “white spaces” is commonly used to describe the airwaves which currently sit in between the channels used by television broadcasters. With the transition from analog to digital television, some tech companies want to use the spectrum on an ad hoc, unlicensed basis for handheld devices that could provide a wireless broadband connection to the Internet. Other interests believe that if the unlicensed use of the spectrum were to be allowed, the risk of interference between the new devices and broadcasters’ and wireless microphone signals would be too great, causing disruptions in service. This event will bring together leaders from the public and private sector on this issue together to discuss this important decision.
