The 10th annual NSTI Nanotech 2007 conference brought together business executives, venture capitalists, politicians, scientists and researchers from 53 countries to partake in the largest international nanotechnology conference and tradeshow in the world. The event took place May 20-24 in Santa Clara, California.
Several Foley attorneys participated in the conference this year. Steven Rutt, senior counsel and member of Foley’s Chemical and Pharmaceutical Practice and Nanotechnology Industry Team, presented a poster presentation on “Nanotechnology in Brand Protection.” The presentation discussed the growing problem of counterfeiting affecting every industry and how nanotechnology can play a role in fighting this issue.
Michelle Manning, an associate and member of the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Practice and Nanotechnology Industry Team, also presented at the conference on the topic of “International Patent Protection: Important Considerations and Trends in the Nanotechnology Industry.” Ms. Manning presented an analysis of the relative costs and important considerations related to the pursuit of foreign protection and examined trends in foreign filing strategies across the nanotechnology industries.
In addition, Thomas Rosenbloom, a partner and member the Private Equity and Venture Capital Practice and Nanotechnology Industry Team, moderated a session on aligning key success factors of nanotechnology companies in order to secure financing and a solid growth strategy.
