Partner Lena Robins is speaking on the World Research Group’s (WRG) Web conference titled Medicare RAC Compliance for Hospitals on March 6, 2008 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. EST.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) initiative which began as a pilot program in 2005 is now permanent and will be implemented nationwide by 2010. Through the contracting of outside vendors, RAC seeks to identify both over and underpayments as well as recover overpayments made by CMS. Hospitals in non-RAC states need to jump start their compliance programs now. This Web conference provides an overview of RAC, its legal implications as well as practical coding, documentation and team building strategies for complying with the program.
Agenda:
- RAC Overview: Purpose of the program, legal implications
- Elements: Audit Process, physician query, coder education and appeal protocols
- Targets: Sepsis, One-day stays, inpatient rehab, outpatient services, excisional debridement and coagulopathy
- Compliance: Creating your RAC team, data mining and proactive auditing
