Midwest Cyber Security Alliance Meeting: The Internet of Things: IoT Security By Design
As the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, more and more businesses are investigating its potential to create value in the form of improved operational safety and productivity, process and resource optimization, smarter decision-making, and visibility into new revenue-generating functions. However, connecting “everything” comes with a significant drawback: increased vulnerability to cyber attacks. While IoT greatly enhances interconnectivity and data sharing capabilities, it also creates new opportunities for hackers and other malicious actors to gain access to sensitive business information such as intellectual property and customer data, or even shut down critical system and operations.
So how does a business effectively manage its cyber risk, mitigate potential loss, and earn consumer trust in the age of IoT? The answer is by adopting a proactive “security by design” approach to software and hardware development in which security is built in from the beginning during the initial design phase rather than as a late addition following an incident. Join us at the next Midwest Cyber Security Alliance meeting for an interactive discussion on the key elements of “security by design” and related topics, including:
- Understanding the use of IoT within your business
- Assessing your business’s risk tolerance based on its use of IoT
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures that align with your business’s risk tolerance
- Recommendations for designing the right technical architecture for your business
- Legal developments impacting IoT device privacy and security
