"My number one piece of advice is to build relationships with those persons and institutions that are best positioned to execute on transactions. These days, much of the middle-market deals being consummated have some connection to private equity. The private equity firms executing these transactions come in all shapes and sizes, both funded and fundless; it is the proliferation of these small to mid-sized PE shops that is driving the current uptick in deal activity in the middle market."
