Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Matt Karlyn has returned to the firm’s Technology Transactions & Outsourcing Practice as a partner in its Boston office.
Karlyn’s practice focuses on technology and patent licensing, commercial technology transactions, and outsourcing transactions, including information technology and business process outsourcing. He regularly advises companies on the commercialization of intellectual property, the procurement and use of information technology in business, and outsourcing initiatives, including drafting requests for proposals; vendor selection; advising on pricing strategies and alternatives; and assisting in the overall management of the transaction and transition process.
“Matt’s depth of experience and ability to fashion practical business solutions will again be extremely valuable in helping our clients achieve their technology objectives,” said James Kalyvas, chair of Foley’s Technology Transactions & Outsourcing Practice, which has been included on the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’ “World’s Best Outsourcing Advisors” list for three consecutive years.
While at Foley in 2012, Karlyn co-authored a book with partner Mike Overly titled, “A Guide to IT Contracting: Checklists, Tools and Techniques.” The book provides critical business and legal insights and lessons learned related to drafting and negotiating IT-related agreements.
“I am thrilled to be back at Foley, where the collaborative culture is unparalleled in the legal industry,” said Karlyn. “The firm’s Technology Transactions & Outsourcing Practice directly aligns with my practice focus, and its strong profile within the firm and marketplace makes Foley a natural fit for me.”
Karlyn rejoins Foley from Cooley, where he was a member of the Technology Transactions practice group since 2013.
“We are pleased to welcome Matt back to our talented technology and IP teams in Boston,” said Susan Pravda, managing partner of Foley’s Boston office.
