Partner Lawrence Vernaglia was quoted in a Modern Healthcare article, “Doctors Say Medicare Pays Three Times More for Care in Hospital Outpatient Departments,” on February 18, 2016. The article discussed an analysis that found Medicare reimbursement to be three times higher in hospital outpatient departments compared to physicians’ offices. Vernaglia said the report may not have accounted for all of the differences between patients in a physician’s office versus a hospital outpatient setting. Vernaglia was quoted saying, “The risk is that people will read the headline, not the data. Comparing payments for patients that may not be comparable isn’t right.”
