Dallas Broadcasters Interview 26th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition Winner
Following his victory at the Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory competition in Dallas, fourth-grader Wesley Stoker of Harry C. Withers Elementary School made the media rounds to talk about his speech with local broadcasters and to recite his award-winning words.
“I may not look like Dr. King, but I believe like Dr. King,” Stoker reiterated at various studios across the metroplex. Commented WFAA reporter Kara Sewell, “You really dug deep to make sure that you hit the right element.”
CBS 11 met Wesley at his home base, First United Methodist Church of Dallas, where his father is a minister. Wesley says his upbringing was part of the motivation to participate in the competition. “Dr. King inspired a nation. This 9-year-old is starting with his own community,” reported Yona Gavino of CBS 11.
“This is getting national coverage, by the way,” said Lauren Przybyl of Fox 4’s Good Day during her interview with Wesley.
