Joseph Quoted in Politico Prescription Pulse About Trump Drug Importation Plan
Of Counsel Paul Joseph was quoted in the Politico Prescription Pulse article, “Some Ways Importation Could Falter,” about whether the Trump administration’s prescription drug importation plan will help to lower the cost of prescription drugs. One pathway to lowering the cost is by allowing drugmakers to import their own products and sell them at a cheaper price in the United States, free of rebate-heavy contracts that manufacturers have argued inflate their prices.
The administration says drugmakers have shown interest in the plan, but they would be competing with themselves by importing foreign versions of their drugs, said Joseph. The proposal “begs the question of whether the pathway was a nod simply to process to give the impression that it was a compromise” with industry, he said.
