Kaplan Quoted in Human Resources Today About Legal Pitfalls in Remote Work Policies
Partner Daniel Kaplan was quoted in the Human Resources Today article, “Drafting a Remote Work Policy: 5 Legal Pitfalls to Watch For,” about creating remote work policies in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many companies are creating such policies, but need to make sure the they are legally sound.
Kaplan was asked how businesses should handle employees working from home without authorization. He suggested employers use a carrot-and-stick approach. “Tell him most people like to get away from barking dogs and crying children by coming into the office occasionally,” he said. “But if things don’t turn around discipline is in order – especially if the job isn’t designated for off-site work.”
Kaplan is co-chair of Foley’s Labor & Employment Practice Group and is based in Madison, Wisconsin.
