Riley Discusses Foley’s Racial Justice and Equity Practice Group
Partner Leigh Riley was quoted in a Milwaukee Business Journal article, “Where some large Milwaukee employers fall on Black Lives Matter apparel in the workplace,” about how some of Milwaukee’s largest nonprofits and professional services businesses are responding to the issue of racial equity.
Riley, vice chair of the Business Law Department, said the firm’s Black attorney affinity group prevailed on the management committee to establish a Racial Justice and Equity Practice Group, which devotes time to both individuals and businesses that support Black Lives Matter and similar initiatives around racial injustice and equity, including efforts to promote voter registration.
“The firm, I’m going to say, did not stand in the way of that,” she said. “We have not had a Back the Blue version of that group that has come forward to request it. I think if we did, the firm would allow that as well. Because we do have to honor that we have a lot of people of varying beliefs in the firm and they need to be able to spend their time in a way to support their beliefs.”
