Berezowsky Quoted in Law360 About the Reformed Electricity Law and Its Impact on Clean Energy Development in Mexico
Partner David Berezowsky was quoted in a Law360 article titled, “Mexico Power Law Redo Short-Circuits Clean Energy Work,” discussing the impact of a recent amendment to electricity industry law in Mexico, more specifically how it discourages investment in renewable and clean energy projects.
Berezowsky told Law360, “It’s going to be pretty difficult for some financial institutions to provide credit facilities for these projects. More importantly … these types of projects will be facing curtailment issues that could affect the debt ratio for the projects.”
He later commented about how the recent amendment might benefit power plants owned by Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) in the immediate term but could end up backfiring: “At some point in the near future, they will have to partner with the private industry to develop power projects.”
