Amanda Beggs Discusses Impact of Euro 7 Emission Standards for Automakers
Foley & Lardner Senior Counsel Amanda Beggs is quoted in the Automotive World article “How will Euro 7 impact the broader automotive sector?” discussing the effect the European Commission’s new proposal for emission standards, which would phase out the sale of new CO2-emitting vehicles from 2035, will have across the wider automotive market.
“The proposed regulations will almost certainly impact demand for certain vehicle components. The production for electric vehicle parts, such as batteries, will become more demanding as the need for electrification and zero-emission vehicles in OEM fleets increase in-line with the standards,” Beggs explained.
Beggs noted that the Euro 7 regulations will push manufacturers to develop zero greenhouse gas tailpipe emission technologies, which will require “governments and electricity providers alike to consider the need for supporting infrastructure” and overall help drive the market towards electrification.
“It will be interesting to see if that takes hold in the US and, if so, whether it will have implications not only for vehicle manufacturers but component manufacturers as well,” she added.
