Judith Waltz Discusses Compliance in Complex Regulatory Environment
Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Judith Waltz is quoted in the article, “All OIG Claim Denials From a Vent Audit Are Overturned; OIG National Audit Is Underway,” in the Report on Medicare Compliance, published by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA).
While “a compliance-centric culture” in health care is beneficial, Waltz said, it’s not easy to achieve. “Health care providers are very resource-stretched, working in a somewhat chaotic environment, and subject to public health emergency stresses and strains like everyone else. It can be hard to find the time to reflect on how to assure that your compliance program is front of mind, still relevant, demonstrates its value, and that it is effective,” she explained.
Waltz added that the more tool provided by the government – including guidance on thorny but common billing issues, checklists, and toolkits – the more likely it will be that providers can meet compliance goals.
