Judith Waltz Comments on New CMS Proposal for Medicare Revocation
Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Judith Waltz is quoted in the article, “CMS Proposes New Grounds for Medicare Revocation but Also a ‘Stay,’” in the Report on Medicare Compliance, published by the Health Care Compliance Association, discussing the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) recent proposal to raise the bar for Medicare enrollment and make it easier to revoke billing privileges.
“Every year, they have been expanding their authorities under the enrollment regulations,” said Waltz, who is co-chair of the firm’s Health Care Practice Group. “This is the way they’re going to avoid fraud and abuse as opposed to pay and chase.”
“The message is pretty clear,” Waltz emphasized. “CMS is looking more and more at people in the background—managers and directors—who are probably pulling the strings.”
