Mark Neuberger Authors Article on New Florida Immigration Law, Mandatory E-Verify
Foley & Lardner LLP of counsel Mark Neuberger authored the Daily Business Review article, “Mandatory E-Verify Has Arrived: What Florida Businesses Need to Know,” exploring the impact Florida’s newly enacted immigration law may have on businesses across the state.
Neuberger provides an overview of the federal government’s E-Verify system, now mandatory for employment eligibility checks for Florida employers with 25 or more employees, and explains the steps these employers will now have to take to ensure legal compliance. Neuberger also assesses the additional concerns Florida businesses are confronting, including the invalidation of undocumented workers’ drivers’ licenses previously issued by other states and the broad definition of human smuggling, both included in the legislation.
“Exactly how the new law will impact the workforce of businesses already facing a tight labor market is unknown and the law certainly places additional burdens on covered businesses,” Neuberger writes. “But given the fact the Florida legislature is not scheduled to go into session until 2024, business will not be finding any immediate relief from Tallahassee. The time to comply is now.”
