Carrie Hoffman Discusses How Employers Can Adapt to Meet Nursing Break Compliance
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Carrie Hoffman is quoted in the Law360 article, “How To Get Creative For Nursing Break Compliance,” offering her perspective on how employers can adapt to meet federal nursing break requirements.
Hoffman said in certain industries without adequate, existing space or facilities, employers can assess whether they can make the manager’s office available for pumping or discuss with their next-door neighbors to see if they have a private space their employee can use.
“It isn’t going to go on forever and ever,” Hoffman said. “It seems like having open conversation and thinking creatively is going to be what employers are going to have to do in those kinds of environments.”
For employees working in hot temperatures, employers might consider providing a fan to help keep the workers cool, Hoffman said. “The more comfortable the employee is, the faster they’re going to be pumping,” she added. “Ultimately, it’s to the employer’s benefit anyway.”
