Foley & Lardner LLP partner Monica Call has been named among Utah Business’ 2023 Women of the Year.
Call, based in Salt Lake City and the Western Region Chair of Foley’s Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group, focuses her practice on a wide variety of business litigation disputes, including commercial contract, business tort, antitrust and unfair competition, intellectual property, securities, professional liability, and corporate governance matters.
“Our legal system is an important reflection of our society, and if any group is underrepresented, the system will not function as well in helping individuals and businesses resolve their differences or pursue justice,” she told Utah Business. “Advocating for women in the legal industry has included recruiting and mentoring women through various phases of their careers. I have benefited from the mentorship of women lawyers in Utah and outside of the state and now serve that same role for the younger generation of women lawyers.”
Foley partner Kenneth Black wrote in her nomination for Women of the Year, “Monica offers her clients and colleagues alike a rare combination. She’s whip-smart. She’s tenacious in all the right ways. She’s unfailingly cheerful and relatable. She’s a leader and a role model. And she does it all with grace, humility and a heavy dose of good humor.”
Call also dedicates a portion of her practice to pro bono causes, providing legal representation to disadvantaged populations. Recently, she has focused on assisting survivors of human trafficking.
“The resilience and determination of these women inspires me,” Call said. “I am an advocate at heart and find fulfillment in helping my clients solve difficult problems and build their businesses.”
Call is profiled by Utah Business here and her video interview with the publication where she discusses her career, philanthropic efforts, and the future of women in law appears here.
