Foley Advises Devolver Digital in Acquisition of System Era Softworks
Foley & Lardner LLP served as legal adviser to Devolver Digital Inc. (“Devolver”) in its acquisition of System Era Softworks Inc. (“System Era”).
System Era is a multi-platform video game developer based in Seattle, WA, and the developer and holder of all intellectual property behind Astroneer, a highly successful, space-exploration themed, multiplayer sandbox adventure game. An Expandable Game title released in 2016, Astroneer has generated over $87 million in gross revenue and has been played by over 13 million people to date.
Devolver is an award-winning digital publisher and developer of indie video games. Devolver places emphasis on premium games and has published over 100 titles, with more than 30 in the pipeline scheduled for release in the coming years. The acquisition represents a strategic opportunity for Devolver to expand outside of its core strength of premium indie titles and adds Astroneer to its high-quality intellectual property. The Foley deal team was led by partner David Kantaros and included associates Laura Burlot, Grace Fucci, and Paige Moscow, with support from partners Garrett Bishop, Jonathan Israel, Christopher Swift, and Raj Tanden, senior counsel Matthew Horton, of counsels Kathleen Bardunias and Marina Choundas, and associates Sara Higgins, Sara Lee Gartside, Gage Mauer, and Sarah Waste.
