Foley Adds Tax Partner David Makso in New York, Continuing Strategic East Coast Expansion
Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that David Makso has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in its Taxation Practice Group. Makso, who joins Foley from Paul Hastings LLP, adds to the firm’s transactional tax depth and growing Fund Formation & Investment Management Practice. Makso is the latest in a string of laterals to join the firm in New York and builds upon Foley’s ongoing commitment to growth and expansion on the East Coast.
Makso represents the tax interests of domestic and international clients in fund formations, cross-border transactions, capital markets transactions, and highly complex leveraged finance transactions. His broad-based experience includes tax structuring of private equity, real estate, and direct lending funds on both the sponsor and investor side, tax counsel on debt and equity offerings, international tax planning, real estate, and corporate and partnership taxation.
“As Foley’s corporate service offerings continue their growth, augmenting our experienced tax bench to build beyond our clients’ expectations is a priority for our department,” said Timothy Voigtman, chair of the firm’s Taxation Practice Group. “David’s deep capabilities and knowledge in guiding clients through a wide range of tax matters will be an asset for our clients across practices, particularly for Foley’s vibrant Fund Formation & Investment Management (FFIM) and Transactions Practices.”
Fluent in three languages, Makso also brings extensive experience advising U.S. and foreign-based clients, particularly in Latin America, in the areas of capital markets, M&A, project finance, and general inbound and outbound tax structuring.
“David’s addition is further evidence that Foley is attracting leading talent as we strategically enhance our capabilities across the East Coast,” said Anne Sekel, managing partner of Foley’s New York office. “His wealth of experience advising domestic and international clients on a wide range of tax matters adds significant depth to our team here in New York and provides another valuable resource to our clients across the firm. We warmly welcome David to the team.”
“Foley’s national platform and prowess across its corporate practices offers the ideal setting to grow my practice,” said Makso. “The synergies between my practice and Foley, particularly its growing FFIM Group, excite me. I’m eager to work alongside my new colleagues and contribute to the firm’s success story.”
