Foley Partners with Utah Business to Host Life Sciences Roundtable
Foley & Lardner LLP recently co-hosted a roundtable discussion on Utah’s life sciences industry with Utah Business.
Featuring Foley senior counsel Michael Manookin and business leaders across the state’s evolving life sciences industry, roundtable attendees discussed fostering talent, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, innovation, and more.
In the Utah Business article summarizing the discussion, “Roundtable: Utah’s evolving life sciences industry,” Manookin commented on the future of artificial intelligence and machine learning in life sciences. “It’s got to be used right. It’s a tool you must learn to use now because it’s not going away,” he explained. “It’ll be the next biggest issue in patent laws. We already know you can’t name AI as an inventor, but if you use AI to develop an idea as a big developer, can you patent that idea? Who invented it?”
“I’m the optimist there, though. [AI] is going to make my job easier,” Manookin added. “I see it as the next frontier. It’s going to make patents better and the review process faster.”
