Jim Miles Interviewed on Health Care Landscape, ASCs, and Impact of AI
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Jim Miles joined the Colorado Ambulatory Surgery Center Association’s (CASCA) podcast to discuss the health care landscape, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and artificial intelligence’s impact on the sector.
“I see AI as increasing the pace of technological advances,” Miles said. “You can analyze data more quickly, you can capture data more efficiently, and with data and the analytics that go into it you’ll be able to accelerate the pace of discovery and new technologies, so I think that will help ASCs.
Miles said that technology is “going to benefit ASCs and also be a headwind to some degree,” noting that while AI-driven evolution in health care technology will increase procedure volume by allowing “something to be done in an ASC setting that historically had been in a hospital,” AI is also going to lead to advances in related industries that may reduce the number of ASC procedures, including pharmaceutical science.
