Nathaniel Lacktman Joins Double Take by Newton Podcast to Talk Telemedicine
Foley & Lardner LLP Nathaniel Lacktman appeared on Newton Investment Management’s Double Take by Newton podcast episode “Modernizing Medicine” to discuss the health care industry’s digital evolution and the benefits of telemedicine.
“While COVID accelerated adoption of telehealth, it certainly didn’t create the industry,” said Lacktman, who is chair of Foley’s Telemedicine & Digital Health Industry Team and serves on the American Telemedicine Association board of directors.
Lacktman cited the confluence of five significant events that helped grow the telemedicine and digital health industry ahead of the pandemic, including the rise of smartphones and consumer-oriented technological wearables, growing comfort with e-commerce, widespread insurance coverage following the Affordable Care Act, a supply and demand imbalance between available clinicians and the number of people needing health care services, and low interest rates and economic stimulus that increased available venture capital for investment in emerging companies.
He also assessed the complexities emerging companies face when navigating health care regulations, the expanding number of telehealth-related medical codes, and the overall positive trends in the industry, including the increasingly popular “click-and-mortar” model.
“The only limits here are the imagination and the capabilities of our current technology,” he added.
