Jennifer Walsh Talks AI, Health Care, and Regulation in Podcast Appearance
Foley & Lardner LLP public affairs director Jennifer Walsh talks AI, health care, and the federal government’s approach to regulating the technology’s implementation in her appearance on the HIMSSCast podcast episode, “Biden’s executive order on AI is just the beginning.”
Discussing President Biden’s executive order issued last fall on AI safety, Walsh explained that the directive instructs a variety of agencies to bring together various stakeholders to develop best practices for AI, including its use in health care.
While some have noted the order lacks teeth, Walsh highlighted the value in this as “we’re sort of at the beginning stages of understanding how to best regulate this” in order to both “protect patients” and usher in “much needed innovation to the health care sector.”
“The private sector is light-years ahead, as is typical, but I’d rather we take the time to do the research, to really work on this partnership with the private sector to understand their best practices thus far,” Walsh added.
